Rome to Pompeii Ruins
Your english speaking driver will collect you from your accommodation in Rome in a top of the range vehicle – and you will head straight off towards the south towards Campania – undoubtedly one of the most beautiful regions in all of Italy.
After about 4 hours drive we will arrive at the first stop of the day – the ruins of Pompei, a literal open air museum. You have a good two hours here to explore the city that was buried under mountains of ash for hundreds of years following the eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD. You can wander along the wonderfully preserved streets among the mosaics and roman columns, many if which have been painstakingly restored. If you visit during the hot summer months pls make sure you carry plenty of bottled water and sun cream as there is not a great deal of shade within the ruins. And Another good tip is to consider using a qualified guide to show you around – this makes for a much more informative visit.
Late morning we will set off towards our second stop – Sorrento. Here you do some shopping on the Corso Italia, with many famous brands on sale. Or head down to the historical centre and pick up a locally made treat – one of the hand crafted wooden boxes or a bottle of the famous limoncello. Don’t forget to stop and take in the breathtaking views of the bay of Naples – where there are glorious views of the imposing Mount Vesuvius. There are also loads of local eateries to grab a snack or a delicious ice cream to keep your energy up for the next part of the day.
Amalfi Coast: Positano Trip
In the afternoon we will take the “Amalfi Drive ” stretch of road for a quick visit to gorgeous Positano. The little streets, the house clinging onto the rocks, the amazing colours and the wide stretch of beach all combine together to make a magical location. This pretty little borgo has always attracted the rich and famous and continues to do so. Here you will have about an hours free time to wander around on foot and really get a feel of this little town full of both visitors and locals alike. Look in the all the artisanal shops and boutiques but make sure you leave enough time to look in at the famous “Santa Maria Assunta” church made famous in all the photos, with its recently found & restored roman villa laying underneath.
You will then meet up agin with your driver who will start the journey back tomyour hotel in Rome. You also have the option of taking the high speed train service between Rome & Naples – and our driver would meet you directly at Naples station to start your days adventures – this saves around 2 hours which you can then use to during the day!
